The department is a recognized center for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Other priorities are the treatment of other chronic inflammatory illnesses of the nervous system and muscles.
The department of neurology treats patients with acute illnesses such as ischemic stroke and brain hemorrhage, meningitis and inflammation of the spinal cord, as well as various types of paresis.
Furthermore we run a Stroke Unit for the treatment of ischemic strokes within the interdisciplinary intensive care unit of the hospital.

Modern medical technology is available to aid with diagnosis and therapy including:

  • Magnetic resonance imaging - MRI
  • Computed tomography - CT
  • Doppler-Ultrasound
  • Catheter angiography
  • Paperless electroencephalography - EEG
  • Sleep laboratory
  • Electromyography - EMG
  • Magnetic stimulation

Our particular emphasis is treating patients with multiple sclerosis. We approach our patients in a holistic manner that takes into consideration social medicine and psychological aspects. A counseling center of the German Multiple Sclerosis Society (DMSG) is located on the premises (www.dmsg.de). We also work closely with other patients' advocate groups like the German Myasthenia society (www.dmg-online.de), and the German society for muscular illnesses (www.dgm.org). Great importance is put on controlling the symptoms of chronic inflammatory diseases, like spasticity, fatigue, pain and tremors, in order to fundamentally improve the quality of life of those affected.
