Heart Failure is a widespread disease that affects more than two million patients in Germany alone. Far too often, the disease is misdiagnosed in its early stages and its significance is underestimated.
The
Heart Failure Center was opened in September 2005 to offer the best possible treatment and to assist patients in search of medical advice. We treat patients with Heart Failure from various causes in close cooperation with primary care physicians, resident cardiologists, and related clinics. Modern tests and medications facilitate an early diagnosis and a selective treatment of the failing heart with the aim of stopping the progression of the disease and of improving the general prognosis.
A special focus of our center is the treatment of severe heart failure. We provide medical care to those patients, who are at high risk for “Sudden Cardiac Death” with an
“Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator” (ICD). We implant a CRT-Pacemaker (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy) in cases of “Ventricular Dyssynchrony”, an uncoordinated contraction of the heart. Thus, it is possible to improve the patient's physical condition and to prolong his life by using modern technologies. However, the modern technological systems, as well as drug therapy, needs to be optimized for each individual patient. We therefore provide intensive outpatient follow-up in close cooperation with the family physician.
We emphasize the importance of a relationship with our patients based on partnership and mutual trust. A detailed explanation of results and therapeutic decisions, but also the individual responsibilities of the patient, are part of this follow-up procedure. Apart from the correct and regular intake of medication, changes in lifestyle play an important role in preventing heart failure. Of course, we support our patients, whose path to recovery is sometimes rocky, with both patience and medical advice.
