The department of surgery at the Jewish Hospital Berlin provides the full range of Trauma Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and General and Visceral Surgery.
It currently offers 70 beds. Additionally, there are kept ready 16 beds for the care of critically ill patients by the
Interdisciplinary Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital.
With approx. 2.900 surgical procedures every year all trauma-surgical and general-orthopedic illnesses of the supporting and locomotor apparatus are performed at the department. Beside general
Trauma Surgery there is a focus on joint replacement surgery, including replacement operations of all large joints (shoulder, hip and knee).
With regard to
Spine Surgery, all arthrodesis/fusion procedures (dorsoventral spondylodesis), vertebral body replacements and minimally invasive vertebral body restoration operations (kyphoplasties) of the thoratic vertebral column and the lumbar spine are conducted. At the same time, the
Arthroscopic Surgery of the shoulder and knee joints, including ligament plasty are emphasized.
In the domain of
Reconstructive Surgery complex corrective procedures, using modern, fixed-angle implants and bone plasty are conducted.
The General and Visceral surgery offers all procedures of
General Surgery with an emphasis on laparoscopic methods, fracture surgery using both open and video-assisted methods (with and without implantation of a synthetic mesh), septic surgery as well as surgery of the diabetic foot.
Visceral Surgery is mainly concerned with surgery of the large intestine and endgut and the differentiate surgery of diseases of the thyroid gland, a special area of expertise of our department. The same applies to
Vascular Surgery. We have a cooperation of specialists working together in our
Vascular Center(www.gefaesszentrum-jkb.de).
Referring to the modern concept of an
Interdisciplinary Cooperation the
Abdomen Center of the hospital offers differentiate diagnostic measures and treatment in a close collaboration with the gastroenterologist department of the hospital.
A competent
Physical Therapy Team supports the patient during a stationary and ambulatory period of rehabilitation.
The surgical capacities of the Department of Surgery have been extended by a cooperating physician in-residence for
Plastic Surgery (www.dr-petrich.de).
The Department offers the following
Outpatient Surgeries:
- circumcisions for medical and religious-cultural reasons
- treatment of skin and soft tissue tumors
- treatment of incarcerated nerves of the hand and forearm
- metal removal
- knee joint and shoulder endoscopies
- hallux valgus
The Head of the Department is authorized as an
accident insurance consultant for the inpatient and outpatient treatment of workplace accidents by the Employers Liability Insurance Association.
Daily consultation hours are held at our ambulatory treatment center.
